Convenient and Free Things You Can Do Today

Reading to educate is wonderful, but it can take a while to read even the most enticing non-fiction book that is also dense with great information. This is especially true when you need to wait for a library copy or they're temporarily out of stock from every bookstore you can think of, which is in itself hopeful that so many people get it. In the meantime, here is a list of some helpful things that can be done right now and without adding financial strain to your already-stretched-thin unemployment check.
  • Put on this video - it is a collection of art and music by Black creators, Zoe Amira will be donating all ad revenue across a bunch of funds (meaning don't skip the ads), and you can legit leave the tab open and mute it if you're like me and got a 2 hour ad for Family Office Club showing an investment powerpoint with stock photos. There are other videos on YouTube now using the same concept so you can continue through different ones all day.
  • While you are there, a list of links to petitions is shown in the video's description. Just go down the list. If you have autofill, petitions take a couple clicks to sign.
  • Sign Petitions Through Texts - these also take about 3 total clicks.
    •  55156: text "FLOYD" for the link to the petition for George Floyd; text "ENOUGH" for the petition for Breonna Taylor
    • 668366: text "JUSTICE" for the link to another petition for George Floyd
  • Fill out those justice-demanding email templates - technology has come so far. If you haven't seen one of these, I would be more than happy to send you one. I'll take you through it: you 'swipe up' from the instagram post/story, you click on whether you want it to open in [insert email app here] 'just once' or 'always', you replace the '[your name]' and '[city, state]' with your info, you press send, you go right back to instagram so you don't lose your place in the line of stories you've been wading through for 45 minutes.
  • Read through a compilation document like this one - the category 'White 2 White Conversation Topics' (which also seems to refer to non-Black POC as well) is especially useful for learning how to help and educate yourself while staying in your lane.
  • Black History Bootcamp - You can sign up to receive an email each day (21 days total) focused on a notable Black women from yesteryear, with clips of manifestos, spoken word, and playlists to listen to while walking. Not to worry if you are concerned about occupying a space for only Black women - the creators and organizers of Girl Trek said that anyone who supports their mission is welcome to join.
  • Share and like the good work that good people are doing. Use the algorithm.

Please comment with any other ideas you have, links to follow, and ways to take action that are simple and no cost.

DON'T LOSE HOPE. CHANGE IS POSSIBLE.
